Today...

Lunch with daughter and grandbabies at a wonderful Mexican restaurant...
Drinking Dead Guy Ale and watching Born into Brothels. I can't even put into words the gratitude I feel for the woman who tried to bring hope and change into the lives of a few children...incense burn on my altar for for.

Hookah Girl called and said that she found a wonderful white wine at $6.66 and immediately thought about me...hmmm...what does that mean?

The non-fiction book is broiling my brain but everything I write looks so wrong on the page...

A friend is reading Unholy Promises with a critical eye...hopefully this third book in the Chronicles of Surrender will soon be ready.

Another Dead Guy Ale seems in order at this point...

A friend sent me this picture and it made me cry.

A Reader Asked, "What Can I Do?"

Be thankful for what you have...

You stay up for 16 hours
He stays up for days on end.

We take a warm showers to help us wake up.
He goes days or weeks without running water.

We complain of a "headache", and call in sick.
He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward.

We put on our anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with our friends.
He still fights for our right to wear that shirt.

We make sure our cell phone is in our pocket.
He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags.

We walk the malls, seeking the perfect pair of shoes.
He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists.

We complain about how hot it is.
He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow.

We go out to lunch and complain because the restaurant got our order wrong.
He doesn't get to eat today.

We change our clothes twice a day, sometimes more.
He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean.

We get angry because our meeting ran 15 minutes over.
He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months.

We have a date tonight.
He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home.

We hug and kiss.
He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume.

We're exhausted because the baby cried all night.
He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet.

We criticize our government, complaining that war never solves anything.
He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting.

We listen to the radio.
He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded.

We see only what the media wants us to see.
He sees the broken bodies lying around him.

We defy authority.
He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger.

We complain about being bored.
He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat.

We complain about the barking dog, keeping us awake.
He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long.

I might think it's time for our soldiers to come home, but that doesn't mean I don't love and respect every single one of them. I might not like our current president, but that doesn't mean that I don't love and respect my country.

A reader wrote, asking, "I want changes in our country, but what can I do?"
1. Register to vote.
2. Vote
3. Watch the news coming out of other countries... BBC, Reuters, IHT... and decide for yourself if this war should keep going on.
4. Join a Meet-up... for example there are Impeach Bush Meet-ups happening all across our country
5. Write letters to your Congress and Senate leaders. Let them know what you are thinking.
6. Sign a petition ... This site has searchable petitions, lend your support on the issues that touch your heart.
7. Write an editorial comment to your local newspaper.
8. Organize a local peace rally, march in a parade

Friday The Thirteenth

I woke up two hours later than I should have, putting my whole day a little off kilter but I refuse to be stressed about it...

Today, we're going to see Harry Potter for the second time...
to a wine tasting friends later this evening where all the wines have mystical inspired names...to a grave yard very late tonight to seek spirits and maybe induldge in some wicked sexual deviance...

What's planned for your day?

happy friday the 13th

Wine, Wine, Wine...

Last Friday some friends came over for dinner and we had our own private wine tasting. Hookah Girl provided what was to become my new favorite.
Evolution is a white, blending nine different varieties of grapes...

Sokol Blosser NV Evolution from Willamette Valley, Oregon

We shortened the name to Evolution (we also trademarked it) and had fun with the package. The new label picks up similar elements of the old label with a fresh twist. It reflects how Evolution evolves: the same classic blend of 9 white grapes, each pressed separately, adding its own character.
At the same time, every new bottling has its own subtle and fresh personality; this edition is slightly less sweet than the last. The 9 grapes tie together perfectly, creating a smooth, layered white wine that can hold its own or stand up to just about any food pairing you dare to serve it with. It is extraordinarily food-friendly, from light salads to the hottest fusion-style cuisine.
I'm no professional, but this is the best wine I've had in a long time...

Happiness is... Being A Firefighter

My middle daughter is a firefighter/EMT...I worry about her getting injured, but she's a smart girl and I trust her ability...and she's happier than she's ever been.

My husband works in a microbiology lab...I worry about him contracting a deadly virus because yeah, I'm concerned (another lab worker caught spinal meningitis testing samples and died within a few hours concerned) But he deals with this stuff every day and I trust him to be as careful as humanly possible...he's the happiest, calmest, most rational guy I've ever met...

I'm telling you this because a recent study lists LIBRARIANS as having the most stress filled jobs on the planet. Yes, I did say librarians. The cause of their stress...repetition and boredom.

Can we draw the conclusion that if your job is dangerous to the point of adrenaline 9-5, you can enjoy a stress free lifestyle? ...and happiness, let's not forget that...and as the report points out that Librarians have poor psychological health...I guess I can assume my husband and daughter are Psychologically Healthy...

So, the bottom line...maybe we need to completely automate libraries...maybe with R2D2 type robots...

I couldn't leave without sharing this video...click here if embedded disabled.

Dancing To Create Energy?

On a lighter note...Dance Clubs...

Now, I know, you like me, went straight to the vision of shiny metal poles and naked girls when you read the headlines this morning about the club based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, who opened a dance club that was GREEN, using all recycled materials...however; the real story lies in how researchers could take this one step further with the further development of vibration technology...read the story. A vibration powered floor, what a concept...no, they haven't taken it that far yet. Seems it takes a lot of dancing feet to create energy...Watch the video.
And, another thing, I know I complain a lot...especially about the US involvement in Iraq and the current President in office, but did you know???
According to BBC News: US leads search for climate solutions
In the second of a series examining California's "green revolution", the BBC News website's Sam Wilson reports from San Jose on how the state is at the forefront of innovation in clean technology.
So, I guess we're at least doing something...
Check out this Energy Saver, Solar Tower in Spain...wowzah
And just to note, China, who has most of it's citizens still living in a Rural Poverty striken nightmare has had an increase of CO2 emmissions of 9% compared to a 1.4% rise in the US. So ask yourself why. This report clearly blames the fact on the US and our Western need for more stuff... I promised a lighter blog today so come to your own conclusions...

Cindy Sheehan Ultimatum

Remember Cindy? After retiring from the Peace movement six weeks ago, it seems she's at it again. Here's what I could pull from the web concerning her announcement...

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - Six weeks after announcing her departure from the peace movement, Cindy Sheehan said Sunday that she plans to run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unless she introduces articles of impeachment against President Bush in the next two weeks.

Sheehan said she will run against the San Francisco Democrat in 2008 as an independent if Pelosi does not seek by July 23 to impeach Bush. "Democrats and Americans feel betrayed by the Democratic leadership," Sheehan told The Associated Press. "We hired them to bring an end to the war. I'm not too far from San Francisco, so it wouldn't be too big of a move for me. I would give her a run for her money."
This announcement falls after the weekend revelation that 220 were killed overnight in Iraq, including 2 US Soldiers. Personally, I think President Bush should be impeached for not only the lies surrounding Iraq, but also for his failures during the New Orleans disaster which killed thousands and when called on it he lied that he wasn't informed of the hurricane's impact. At this point I cannot believe a word that comes out of President Bush's mouth.
Beyond that, let's jump back a few years when President Clinton had an ill-advised sexual encounter and lied about it...do we not remember the inquiry and outcry for impeachment?
So, one President lies about sex...and our nation is ready to impeach him.
Another President's lies leads to the deaths of thousands of our citizens and soldiers and yet we as a nation are too apathetic to even stand up and say we care.
Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican or an Independent, whether you support the war or no, at least show some empathy for the woman who has given up so much and asked for nothing for herself all because she believes in something. She believes hard enough to try to do something about it...and I applaud her for that alone.
I'm tired of the apathy.

Religious Freedom

Following July Fourth, I've lingered over thoughts concerning what it is to be an American. I have so many freedoms...

I do?

Did you know?

Paganism is a legally recognized religion in the United States with our Churches and Temples qualifying for 501C3 tax exemption. Yet the laws governing non-discrimination based on religion do not apply to us.

Our military personel who have died in service to this country are being denied the right to have a sign of their faith put on their headstones.

Laws are being passed in individual states giving organizations accepting government funding the right to refuse to hire teachers on religious grounds.

Our children are being denied the right to wear symbols of our faith in school yet other religions are being allowed to wear symbols of their faith with no punishment involved.

Employees are being terminated because they have asked to be off on religious Holy days Pagans celebrate, and forced to be off work while non-Pagan employees celebrate their Holy days.

Hate crimes are being committed against us, yet it is unheard of for anyone to be arrested and charged with a hate crime.

We are the fastest growing Religion within the United States. We do not want special treatment, simply equal treatment.
Pagans Deserve Religious Freedom Too!

House For Sale

So being in the real estate business isn't the best choice of careers right now...if you belive the media hype about the housing slump...or you could take a look at my last three months income...

Thankfully someone always wants to sell a house...
Take this gem near Brasnov in Central Romania... The Bran Castle, which sits on a cliff and is a top tourist attraction because of its ties to Prince Vlad the Impaler, the warlord whose cruelty inspired Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, "Dracula." The castle is now on the market. No price was announced, though Gardner predicted the castle would sell for more than $135 million. He added that Habsburg will only sell it to a buyer "who will treat the property and its history with appropriate respect."
